Russian Arrested During Child Prostitution Busts in Pattaya

A Russian national has been arrested for his involvement in a child prostitution network operating in Pattaya. The arrest follows Sundays bust on a Thai man thought to be the main agent in the operation involved with procuring young boys for largely foreign clientele.

Pattaya, the 5^th of July 2010 [PDN]: Investigators from the Children & Woman’s Protection Center along with the Welfare Protection & Child Development Center successfully apprehended Mr. Traiphop Bunphasong [40] on Sunday, with follow-up investigations leading to the arrest of another offender, of Russian nationality.

Head of investigations, Lieutenant Colonel Ormsin Sukkankha, revealed the arrest of Mr. Tlener Mikhail [53] a Russian national, believed to be involved with procuring and providing children for sexual services to visiting foreigners in Pattaya. Mr. Mikhail is also facing charges of committing indecent sexual acts with a minor.
Reportedly, Mr. Mikhail is a professional piano instructor who has been residing in Thailand for many years. He recently founded the “Music House Company” dedicated to teaching Thai and foreign students the art of piano and music. The company is based from his private residence in Pattaya.

Officers swooped to arrest Mr. Mikhail on Monday after investigations uncovered him as a suspect in a child prostitution network, following the arrest of Mr. Bunphasong on Sunday. He was arrested at the Euro Badminton Complex in Soi Nonghin, Banglamung. Using a warrant, officers proceeded to search the suspect’s residence, find several hundred files, photos and videos on his home computer of child pornography and images of indecent acts with underage children.
Police have now confiscated all evidence against Mr. Mikhail, who has himself been remanded in custody awaiting further investigations and judicial proceedings to commence. Officers believe that Mr. Mikhail was not only involved with committing sexual acts against minors but in the prostitution of young boys to other foreign clients visiting the area.

Paedophile Agent Busted Following Pattaya Investigation

A Thai man has been arrested in Pattaya on Sunday for a variety of underage sex offences. Resultant investigations uncovered a host of evidence including paedophilic material contained at his work and residence.

Pattaya, the 4^th of July 2010 [PDN]: At approximately 7:00pm on Sunday, Lieutenant Colonel Ormsin Sukkankha (Banglamung Police Investigator and Chief of the Children & Woman Protection Center Region 2) along with officers from the Welfare Protection and Child Development Center arrested a suspect involved with a child prostitution racket operating in Pattaya.
Mr. Supphakorn Noja (Welfare Protection and Child Development Center Director) revealed to police recent reports presented to his agency relating to indecent sexual acts performed on a minor and the subsequent production of a video involving the child. Resultant investigation revealed the offender to be Mr. Traiphop Bunphasong [40], a child prostitution agent operating in the area.
With the use of an arrest/search warrant officers busted Mr. Bunphasong whilst he was riding his motorbike in Soi Khaotalo, Pattaya. A search of his motorbike at the scene uncovered a lewd photograph of him and a young boy involved in an intimate pose at which point he was immediately arrested.

Officers presented Mr. Bunphasong with the arrest/search warrant and proceeded to his residence/business in the nearby Soi Nernplubwan. At the premises, an internet café with above residence, officers confiscated a hard-drive, memory card and handy drive all containing various forms of pornography involving young boys between the ages of 9-15. Documentation pertaining to a pornography business were also confiscated in the search.
Under interrogation, Mr. Bunphasong confessed to being an agent soliciting minors, primarily young boys, to a largely foreign clientele. He also confessed to having sold lewd photographs involving minors to overseas-based pornography websites. Mr. Bunphasong has been charged with multiple counts of sexual abuse of a minor under 15-years-old, deceiving minors into performing indecent acts, soliciting prostitution of a minor and illegal detention of a minor without parental consent.
Officers believe Mr. Bunphasong was a major agent in the underage homosexual prostitution industry in the area with over 40 young boys thought to be involved with the racket.

The current Thai monarch, the much-beloved King Bhumibol Adulyadej (King Rama IX of the Chakri Dynasty) has reigned in Thailand for over 60 years, the longest of any Thai ruler. In fact, he is now the longest reigning monarch in the world. King Bhumibol was born in 1927 in Cambridge Massachusetts, where his father studied medicine at Harvard University. The Thai people have a deep and abiding reverence for their royal family. This immense popularity is a reflection of His Majesty's keen interest in his people's welfare. The King and his Queen, Queen Sirikit, have devoted a great deal of time and effort implementing public work projects, with particular focus on the under priviliged. As a constitutional monarch, the king holds powers similar to those of the Queen of England. Though he maintains neutrality in times of crisis, the king of Thailand has proved time and again to be a reliable stabilising force for the Thai people.

Royal rain-making project

In November of 1955 Northeast Thailand was in the grip of one of its periodic droughts. As is his custom in times of crisis, his majesty King Bhumibol Adulyadej travelled to support his subjects in their time of need. The king recognised that Thailand needed some control over its climate, and he resolved to find a way to make it rain. Although wet cats and rockets were just about the only solution on offer at the time (there is a rain-making ritual in the north of Thailand whereby a wet cat is paraded through the village in a wicker basket, and an annual rocket festival in which rockets are fired in an attempt to shock the clouds into making rain) the King was not discouraged. A Thai inventor was assigned to investigate existing technology for weather modification and how it could be applied to conditions in Thailand. He soon discovered that current techniques were not really succesful, and almost no work had been done in tropical regions. For over a decade, under the King's guidance, he continued his experiments. King Bhumibol made suggestions concerning the importance of studying weather patterns, ways to increase surface humidity and stressed the need for detailed and accurate records of experiments. By 1972, to the amazement of a group of government representatives from Singapore, a team was able to produce a significant amount of rain in the Kaeng Krachan resevoir within five hours of seeding the clouds with a chemical mixture. In 1974 another devastating drought affected large parts of Thailand and the Royal rain-making team faced its first real test. The ongoing operation was directed by the Thailand King himself. To the relief of farmers this concentrated offensive brought rain to the fields just in time to save the harvest. Doubters were silenced and ever since Royal rain-making has been an integral part of Thailand's agricultural landscape. Under the Royal Rain-making Research and Development Institute the methods of rain-making have since been fine tuned to determine the appropriate mixture of chemicals and timing of the cloud seeding. These methods have gone considerably further than methods used in many other countries, establishing Thailand as a world leader in the science of weather modification. November 14 is now celebrated in Thailand as Royal Rain-making Day in memory of the moment when His Majesty the King first had the inspiration to banish the spectre of drought from his kingdom.

The Royal Stream

Near Haad Sadet on the east coast of Koh Phangan island is a favourite bathing spot of Thailand's Kings. The waterfalls are collectively known as the 'Royal Stream'. There are inscriptions left on granite boulders by various Thai kings making it is an important point of local history to Koh Phangan.
